Instruction

The Dundas Pipes and Drums has been providing instruction for the bagpipes and side drum for many years. We hold lessons for beginners and intermediate players. Our current students range in age from 10 to over 60. It is never too late or too early to start to learn to play the pipes or drums.

Lessons are held at the Dundas Town Hall. Lessons are free of charge. Please contact us by email for any further information you may require.

The Pipes

New players begin their training using a practice chanter. Students are required to buy their own. Training on the chanter typically lasts around a year while basic music skills, reading music, and fingering technique are learned.

Beginner lessons are given by current band members and are held from 11:00 am to 12:30, most every Sunday of the year with exceptions for band events and holidays. Please check the updated schedule by clicking the Schedule button on this page.

Additional private lessons with instruction from band members, can also be arranged. Fees for these lessons may apply and are solely a matter between the student and the instructor.

Once a student has achieved the required skills, they will be encouraged to purchase their own set of bagpipes and invited to join the band on Wednesday evenings when the band receives instruction from Jamie Connelly. Jamie is Pipe Major of the McNaughton Highlanders (Grade 2) and has an accomplished record of band instruction, leadership and competition at the national and international level.

The Drums
